About Locs By Tanya
Locs By Tanya provides eco-friendly natural hair care services in the Atlanta metro area for all types and textures of natural hair, specializing in Loc developmet & maintenance. Locs By Tanya uses the absolute best products we can find on the market for healthy hair care. Extensive time and research has been done to ensure that the products used are not only eco-friendly, but that they meet the scientific needs of the hair - meaning a conditioner really has the components necessary to truly condition the hair, or that a good moisturizing shampoo actually moisturizes the hair.
Tanya's personal commitment goes further with the development of "B'yond Natural" a line of custom formulated, eco-friendly hair and body care products that will be offered in fine salons and upscale retailers in 2009. Our eco-friendly hair care product line "Beauty Is Green" is formulated with certified organic ingredients, is vegan and blended with essential oils that work synergistically with the respiratory and immune systems. Our formulator has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation, and for each gallon of product purchased for salon use, the ADF will plant five trees. We're going beyond natural because its not just about hair, it's about doing all we can to enhance the world we share.

There is no miracle cure to repair damaged hair. Hair is comprised of dead cells and cannot be repaired, but it can be coated and conditioned. The hair has two parts, the follicle and the hair shaft. The follicle is below the hair shaft and produces the hair strand that grows through the epidermis (scalp). The follicle is alive, the hair shaft is not, it is made of fragile dead cells that have no regenerative properties. The follicle is deep in the scalp and has a bulb at the bottom. The sebaceous gland is attached to the follice and gives hair its shine by producing a natural lubricant called sebum. The follicle is where the hair gets its characteristics - straight, wavy or curly; dry or oily and thickness.
The hair has three basic layers - the medulla, the cortex and the cuticle. The medulla is the intermost layer of the hair where strength and body are determined. The cortex is the middle and largest layer, it provides strength to the hair shaft and determines color, texture and elasticity. The outer layer, the cuticle, protects hair from the environment by forming a tightly packed layer of protective scales that overlap.

Hair grows from the follicle at an average rate of one half inch per month. Each hair grows four to seven years then goes into a transitional period, then a resting period, then falls out. A new hair begins to grow in its place between three weeks and three months later. The average head has 85 percent of hair growing and 15 percent resting. This life cycle of hair is described in three phases, Anagen Phase - Growth; Catagen Phase - Transitional; Telogen Phase - Resting. At the end of the Telogen phase the hair re-enters the Anagon phase.
One other important healthy hair fact. You absolutely cannot cultivate healthy
hair without understanding the science of the hair and scalp. Your particular hair and scalp issues may require something that nature needs a little help with. Your natural hair culturist should know where nature ends and science begins and the two can harmoniously work together. In many instances your hair and scalp are indicators of issues taking place in the body, which may then require medical intervention. I pay close attention to my clients overall wellness and make referrals to health care providers when necessary. I also use a variety of Trichology, Aromatherapy and Naturopathy to address the overall needs of my clients.
What does "B'yond Natural" mean?
B'yond Natural is a lifestyle..........it means taking care of yourself completely, mind, body & spirit. B'yond Natural is putting good things in and getting good things out, protecting your environment internally and externally. What good is it to eat junk, but want natural products to enhance your hair and skin? What benefit is it to gossip and feed your mind and spirit with negative information and people, but somehow want to feel good? How can one have an ugly attitude with others, yet desire to be beautiful?
"Serving the Lord Jesus in all I do, encouraging others to rise to the next level in their lives, being a blessing to others, being a good steward over the things the Lord has seen fit to bless me with, serving others...............that's how I live b'yond natural."
"It's easy to go natural.........it's much more rewarding to go b'yond natural."
"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
